Mission Outline

The Scorpion's new mission is to go back to Kaerine space and open diplomatic negotiations with the Kaerine, as well as to investigate the jump gates, which are 250,000 year old quantum transporters, able to beam ships instantly to different star systems. The Federation would like to learn about that technology themselves. At the same time, the Scorpion will try to retrieve Captain Jim Hawkins, if possible.

JUMP EVERYBODY JUMP (Pt 2)
15th November to 15th March

Mission Outline

To venture into Kaerine space and retrieve the hybrid ship and return it to Starfleet, preventing any valuable technology from getting into the hands of unauthorised people.

Mission Results

After dropping out of slipstream into the Kaerine area of space, the Scorpion discovered it was in the middle of a large tetryon field that prevented it from activating warp or slipstream. It was also right next to a large 'jump gate', which was part of a system of travel used by the Kaerine to travel around their area of space. The Scorpion investigated the jump gate network and found 28 gates, as well as a large assortment of non-warp capable races who used the gates to travel and to trade with each other. Luckily the Scorpion was able to find two gates outside of the enormous tetryon field, and were able to activate their warp / slipstream drives again.

The crew of the Scorpion had discovered earlier that the slipstream drive had caused a problem with Captain Jim Hawkins' quantum stability. The drive, when activated on the edges of a tetryon field, used extra power to compensate for tetryon effects. This had the unfortunate effect of putting Hawkins into a quantum flux, causing a switch between himself and an alternate universe copy - Captain PETER Hawkins. When it was discovered what had happened, attempts were made to find out how to fix this problem. It was determined that recreating the effects would restore the captains to their primary realities, and then adjusting the quantum singularity frequency would prevent it happening in future.

Unfortunately, it didn't work. Peter disappeared, and Jim failed to return. After a couple of weeks of trying to correct things, without success, Commander K'udar, the XO, ordered the ship back to Starbase Praetor. The hybrid ship they were after was also unretrievable, as it would take 40 years at maximum impulse to get to Kaerine space through the tetryon field.

Starfleet Command conducted an investigation that took 5 weeks, and eventually determined that the incident was an accident, and everyone did everything that they could to fix it. Commander K'udar was promoted to Captain and given command of the Scorpion. A new XO was brought in, and a few of the crew received promotions while others were reassigned.

Mission Outline

The USS Scorpion's mission is to go and investigate an Orion Syndicate (pirates) facility.  Starfleet Intel has discovered that the pirates are reverse engineering their own ship using a stolen Starfleet and Breen ship.  The Scorpion is to 'shut down operations', retrieve the ships, and find out how the pirates got hold of them.

Mission Results

The Orions had a large-scale operation in progress, with an orbital shipyard, and a ground-based facility. With many hundred personnel, it was a daunting target for a 'standard' Starfleet vessel. However, the USS Scorpion was not a standard vessel.

After spending a day gathering intelligence while cloaked, various departments began moving out to get into position for action. The marines and the SpecOps team went to the planet and moved into position. The fighter squadron also moved into position to take out Orion fighters. The marines were supported by 1 Mecha, while 2 Mecha supported the fighters. The USS Toro took up position, ready to jam Orion communications when the engagement commenced. Security teams attempted to infiltrate and gain control of the 3 ships in the shipyard.

Unfortunately, they succeeded only with the Starfleet and Breen ship, but the hybrid ship cloaked and escaped, with all 20 of the Scorpion's boarding party killed in the process.

As expected, the Orions chose not to surrender. The shipyard was made defenceless in a matter of seconds, and the Scorpion Security forces boarded it. However, the Orions had been alerted to the attack by noisy marines, and were able to organise internal defences quicker than expected. Still not good enough to resist, but Starfleet casualties were also higher than expected.

Within a short space of time, the shipyard had been taken over, the planetary facility also taken over by the marines, and the information about the work the Orions were doing was retrieved by the Intel operatives who infiltrated the base from the rear while the marines were engaging from the front.

A scientist from a new race called the Kaerine was captured, who was responsible for building the hybrid ship resulting from a union of Starfleet and Breen technology, and controlled by an AI (Artificial Intelligence). It had pre-programmed orders to retreat to Kaerine space if threatened.

After cleaning up and handing the situation over to the follow-up fleet, along with prisoners, the Scorpion head off to Kaerine space, with the scientist as a guest instead of a prisoner. He had been contracted by the Orion Syndicate to do the work, and thus was not part of their criminal organisation.
